Prince Otto sues for divorce

July 2, 1919

"A painful sensation" has been caused by the details of a judicial separation petition by Prince Otto of Windisch-Graetz against his wife, the former Archduchess Elisabeth of Austria, the daughter of the late Crown Prince Rudolf.
The petition, according to the New York Times, "alleges numerous cases of immoral conduct," with several men, first with the submarine commander Eugen Lerch, who lost his life in an battle in the Adriatic, and then with Lerch's brother, "and a number of other officers during the Princess's sojourn on the romantic Brioni Island and at a Budapest hotel."
The details "adduced by the Prince defy publication for their perverse character." The Princess has counter-sued,"alleging among other grounds his spendthrift habits."
